In 1967, SERVPRO(r) began as an art business run by Ted and Doris Isaacson in Sacramento, California. Within a short period, they tapped into their experience in restoration and cleaning to expand their business by offering franchises in the cleaning and restoration sector. Their first franchise was sold by 1969, and SERVPRO grew quickly. A decade later, they were able to buy their first Bristol-Myers Domesticare division and its 175 franchises. In 1988 the Isaacsons transformed SERVPRO into a successful company with 647 establishments. They expanded further and moved SERVPRO to Sacramento within the Metro Nashville area. This move strategically placed SERVPRO in a centrally-located area, within 600 miles and 50 percent of the U.S. population. It didn’t take that long until SERVPRO proved to be an important contribution to the community it was establishing and was awarded “the “Small Business of the Year” from Nashville Business Journal in 1991.
