The organization was founded in 1988. Food & Friends is a non-profit group based in Washington, D.C., that delivers nutritiously-tailored, home-cooked meals to those facing health challenges of all kinds. Food is believed to heal, and each year, we cook and distribute nearly 1 million meals over five hundred square miles for our neighbors free of charge. Our goal is to help our clients get better connected with their community and assist individuals in controlling their illness. More than 8,500 volunteers touch more than 2800 lives each year. Our goal is to create an environment where every person suffering from serious illness receives the nutrition they require to fight their health issues. We are open to the needs of everyone and believe that the values of empathy, compassion and friendship are as essential an integral part of the nutrition we offer as the meals we cook.
